Report: | This was a close match between two closely matches teams.
1st up was Ian A v Ian S and these two play quite a similar crash bang wallup style and each game generally went one way then the other. The 1st saw Ian S pick up the early points then Ian A levelled ip up at 3-3 only for Ian S to forge to a commanding lead but just as it seemed Ian S would take the 1st Ian A snook up levelled it at 7-7 then after one hand out Ian A quickly snook the remaining two points to go 1 up. The 2nd was nip and tuck all the way with Ian S just ahead most of the way and again just as it looked like Ian S was about to win the game Ian A snook up again a nicked it to go 2 up. The 3rd saw Ian S in charge but at 7-2 up Ian A started to snook up again but this time there was too much to snook up and Ian S was able to claim it to make it 2-1. The 4th was similar to the 2nd with Ian S ahead must of the way and again when he looked to be about to win the game little old snooky upper Ian Adid the business again to claim a 3-1 win.
Next up where Antonio and Neil with Antonio playing his 3rd team match in as many days. Antonio was up for it early on and quickly had a lead which he kept hold of to go 1 up. The 2nd was tight with each player having turns at taking the lead. Antonio got to 7 first only to be caught and then passed by Neil. Antonio levelled it at 8-8 but Neil finally finished it off and Antonio it seemed as the 3rd was quickly dispatched 9-0 to Neil. The 4th was tough for Antonio but he tried to keep up with Neil but Neil was too fit in the end and finished it off to win 3-1.
Next up where Greg and Paul. Greg started off the steadier of the two and was soon building up a lead which he maintained and extended although Paul made a minor comeback towards the end of the game but Greg finished it off to go 1 up. The 2nd saw Greg get an early lead before Paul started to make his presence felt and go ahead. Greg rallied a little but Paul was just about playing the better squash and he made it count to level things at 1-1. The 3rd saw Paul totally in charge with Greg making it easy for him with a few tins - the result was 9-0 to Paul and a 2-1 lead. The 4th was almost a reverse of the 3rd with Greg getting to 6-0 up before Paul had a look in. Paul then recovered to 6-5 and a number of hand outs ensued but finally Greg closed it out to level things up at 2-2. The 5th set saw Greg get an early lead but then Paul rattled off a string of points to go 5-2 up. Greg pulled it back to 4-5 only for Paul to win another string of points that got him to match point. Greg tried to grab back the initiative but Paul finished it off with some sold play.
Next up where Dave and John. Dave started off well and had an early lead at 4-0 and 5-1 which John then reduced to 5-4. Dave added one more point before John strung together a bunch of points to take the 1st game. The 2nd was all Dave and he was in charge early on and very quickly at game point. John fought back and managed to get to 8-5 down only for Dave to nick the one point he needed to level it up at 1-1. The 3rd was tight all the way with both players taking turns at being ahead. Dave seemed to be edging towards a win but then 3 straight points for John gave it to him and a 2-1 lead. John seemed to be heading for victory in the 4th with a 5-2 lead but Dave fought back and eventually went ahead at 7-6 but it took a few more hand outs to finally get the game and make it 2-2. The 5ht set seemed one too far for Dave as John was in charge from the start and 5 points went his way before Dave got a point on the board. John soon had it won however to win this match and the match overall.
The final match saw Andy play Mike. Mike took time to settle in and by that time Andy was 7-2 up. Mike pulled it back to 8-5 but Andy saw it off to go 1 up. The 2nd was going the same way as the 1st but Mike started to play better went ahead at 6-5. Dave tried to wrestle back the lead but Mike finished off to level at 1-1. The 3rd saw Mike playing his best squash of the night and he was very quickly building up a lead which quickly became another game for him for the loss of just 1 point. The 4th was again all Mike with Andy struggling to make it competitive and soon enough it was 3-1 to Mike.
A good win for Tunbridge Wells could easily have been a 3-2 win for Dulwich.
A few beers with fish and chips from our sponsors was much appreciated.
Might have selected the wrong Mike - was not sure of his surname. |
