Report

Report:After much confusion all round on the number of players, food arrangements etc the season kicked off for PL 1 last night. A full house with 4 PL teams playing at Langley as the 2nds played the 3rds next door. Four man teams for Div 1 was the final (erroneous) conclusion.

First up Pratt v Ford
Newly promoted Steve wasted no time in proving that all his champing at the bit to get up the order was justified. A cracking game with Ben's defensive lobbing and general all round court craft being just about enough to suppress Steve's stunning turns of speed. Lots of attacking play from Steve, both short and long forcing Ben into an uncharacteristically defensive performance. A masterclass as ever in doing enough to win though. Nevertheless, a very impressive performance from Steve, fully justifying the no.1 slot. Well played.

Out in the wilds of court 4 Peel jnr v Fitzsimon
Didn't see a ball of this, but Jack looks to have had a bit too much in the tank for Ross who was drafted in from Bexley's 5th team. A comfortable 3-0 win.

Next up Kennedy v Steeden
At last Gina has taken up her rightful 1st team slot full time and got off to a good start against a rather ring rusty Mark. Gina snuck a tight first but the 2nd was a bizarre affair. Having gone 1-5 down Gina came back to lead 10-6 but couldn't close it out. This proved decisive. Mark capitalised on Gina's increasing frustration, dragging her back down to old man pace very effectively. After being exhorted by the coaching staff to step up the pace several notches and play her normal attacking game, Gina finally obliged at the end of the 4th. A slightly controversial let near the end contributed to Gina just doing enough to take it to a 5th.
Mark's experience was key in the 5th as he kept it steady, while Gina, despite setting herself up nicely for the winners, played a string of unforced tinned drops giving the initiative right back. Despite this, a 2-3 loss to someone of Mark's experience was a very creditable performance. Onwards and upwards I think.

Last and very much least: London snr v Breen
A bright-ish start from the author for a change, but once we got to the business end of the 1st and for the rest of the match thereafter, the author was unable to do anything to quell Jack's power game. A good steady performance from Jack and the author going further backwards as the match went on, wrapped up a good opening win for Bexley.
