Report

Report:Bit of a damp squib last night as Dulwich 2 visited PL. Jamie pulled out late in the day leaving Dulwich with a 3 man team and Nick with no match after driving up from Maidstone.

First on: Kennedy v Nicholson
Didn't see any of this as I was on court next door, but Gina seems to have done a tidy job of suppressing an awkward opponent. A small hiccup in the 3rd but normal service resumed to take the match 3-1.

Next door: London snr v Grinnell
Quite a tricky match for the author. An unusually good start as Ben was the one being a little slow to get going but in the 2nd the author struggled with (a) Ben's serves, and (b) his thumped straight forehand service returns. Just about did enough to rescue it from a couple of game balls down. Got it back on track in the 3rd to take the match.

Last on: Pratt v Joyce
Steve continued his fine run of form, giving Paddy very little to work with. Once again the speed was in evidence as everything was chased down. That mixed with the court craft that's surfaced now saw a comfortable victory to wrap up the match.

The author returned onto court after the end of marking duties, to ensure Nick got a little bit of value for his journey. That mixed with having a hit with the ever present junior contingent, meant he got a reasonable workout. So much so in fact that we arrived just in time to see the Dulwich boys off after their meal.

The summer season enthusiasm seems to be little in evidence, and four man teams (or in this case 3), particularly when combined with PAR scoring means a lot of early finishes. Someone, somewhere seems keen to ensure that Priory matches end up vanishing like the Cheshire Cat. Only this time all that's left won't be a smile (at least here).
