Report

Report:PL1 hosted the visit of Bexley 2 last night and it turned out to be a close fought match.

First up: Kennedy v Badger
Gina just had one of those nights last night. The ball stubbornly resisted being hit to the desired location, and although Matt capitalised on this for a good chunk of the match, the fact that Gina managed to keep her cool (with some encouragement to do so from the PL coaching staff), paid huge dividends. She kept plugging away and Matt (who feels that the author has jinxed him to lose every tight 3-2 he gets into) just started to make mistakes at crucial points. In the 5th Gina just kept it going and Matt's increased tiredness led to a flurry of loose stuff. Gina duly capitalised to complete a good winning ugly job.

Next door: Robbins v Harrison
Peripheral vision only on this one due to marking duties, but it appeared that JEJ had a bit too much in each game for Duane, who'd had to rush away from watching the racketball that preceded the match court, since it made the squash ball look too small. Know the feeling.

Next on: Pratt v Masters
The opportunity to actually have a decent warm up for a change, whilst waiting for a late arriving opponent, meant that your trusty scribe was otherwise detained for some of this match. I did sneak across a few times though, and Brad appeared to have recovered well from the Reading Festival. The difference from what I saw was rather more patience from Brad, whilst Steve succumbed to the temptation of a few too many tricksy shots. That said there were some peaches mixed in there, but Brad ran down most of even the best ones. Didn't see the last segment either, but Steve did enough to sneak a game, with Brad ultimately doing enough to close it out.

Last on: London snr v Garrett
This was a long match. The author raced off to a big lead on the back up of a decent knock up, and Ant racing straight on court, and then nearly threw it away. The 2nd and 3rd were honours even and the author had got to an 8-5 lead in the 4th when a recurrence of a calf tweak slowed proceedings to a hobble. Thankfully it wasn't quite as bad as the initial one last week and the author managed to hop around reasonably effectively in the 5th, coming back to save three match balls, before a framed volley service return nick (off the side wall!), immediately followed by a nick off a dead weight length drive, saw Ant take it 14-12.

With the rest of the team heading off into the night early, a late arriving author arrived in the bar to find that the Bexley boys had been obliged to feed themselves. The bowl of coleslaw they'd thoughtfully saved proved a resistable temptation, and considering the PAR scoring and 4 man teams, this proved quite a long night.
