Report: | End of season match v T.Wells 2 last night, with TW short a player (sadly just after the author had secured a 4th team member). Both teams somewhat under strength.
First on: Peel jnr v Newberry.
Deano got off to a very slow start with Jack playing a good line and length for the whole game, and Deano making a few mistakes. Sadly for Jack he forgot the tactics in the second completely and fell back into too much push and boast. This interspersed with a lot of mistakes got Deano right back into it. A tight 3rd decided by a stroke against led into an even tighter decider, with Jack unable to convert his one game ball.
Next door: Kay v Webberley
Both stand-ins acquitted themselves well from the little I could see via peripheral vision. It looked to be a tricky one for marker and travelling supporter Peel snr, as both players struggled to negotiate a route around each other. They both also struggled a little to read each others game (particularly Paul), which just added to the problem. Paul however, gave his usual 100% and did enough in each game to take a tight 3-0.
Last on due to the short numbers: London snr v Head
A thoroughly enjoyable run around this one. Both players had to do a lot of work. The author got off to an unusually bright start, and fortunes ebbed and flowed throughout the first three games which were very tight. A herculean effort by the author to nick the 3rd at the death were just thwarted. Much like Jack, the author was unable to convert his single game ball, and the efforts expended blunted the edge of his game for the rest of the match.
The end of another season, with the author already embroiled in the usual PL internal politics for the winter season (groan)! Seems like it could be a very new look 1st team (if one emerges at all). The author will likely need to be in very serious training with the way things are looking at the moment. Permanent altitude sickness beckons ... |
