Report

Report:Intra club battle round 1 between PL4 & PL3, both sides slightly under strength but made for an even contest throughout the strings.

First on were Tom and Brett, I didn't see any of this match but looks like Brett starting to hit his former levels having been out of the game for a while, capitalising on a slow start from Tom who dug in but maybe a little too late?

On the graveyard court Rich and Stu were facing off in a match that toed and froed more times than I care to remember. Closely fought all the way but Stu nicking it in the 5th! Clearly having a broken hand suits him. Comical scenes that an argument broke out OFF THE COURT, on the balcony over a let call that neither player seemed to particularly care about but more of that to come...

Toby took to the court to play young Declan and although again I didn't see any of it, it looks like Toby "experienced" Dec, even managing to clutch the 2nd from the jaws of defeat at 10-8 down. Declan improving with every match though and good to see another junior coming through.

In a bid to keep Nilen relaxed against the ever resilient Kevin, we decided to let him think that Rich had won his match and so there was no pressure on him... Whether it worked or not is debatable as Kev made sure Nil was punished for his ever consistent trait of switching off every other game but eventually closed out 3-2.

On to the final game between Rob and Simon then and a decider for the tie. With tempers already flaring before the game oweing to some attempted mind games and over a let call whilst Rob was marking, and both players went on court with tensions high. Didn't take long before both were at each others throats, handbags at 10 paces and trading insults about "gangsters and tracksuit bottoms"... Squables aside, the squash being played was very good, both players playing nice shots throughout the games with Rob able to squeeze enough pressure on to take the first 2. A spirited fight back in the 3rd in amongst yet more petty arguing and one particularly crass insult towards his junior saw Simon make it 2-1 and make it interesting. Rob closed out in the 4th though and thus sealed the points for PL4.

All in all a good night of squash and after all was said and done, both teams enjoying food, drink and banter in the bar.

Not looking forward to the long away trip in the second half!
