Report

Report:What a cracking end of season match up this was between the PL boys! Quite possibly latest finish of the season as well despite relatively ely early start and two quickfire 3-0 scorelines.

On first Rich vs Andy
Andy off to a flying start in this one surging into a 4-0 lead before Rich started finding his feet and stemmed the tide. Lots of interference leading to both players frustrated with markers calls, first game went back and forth with plenty of hand in/outs before Andy pressed home at the end. 2nd was very tight but again Andy squeezed out couple of quick points at the business end of the game, looking bleak for Rich now. Quick pep talk from the team and the next two games followed pattern with the difference being Rich applying the pressure at the end of games instead. Into a decider, both players giving everything, Andy pulling out some clinical finishes at key times racing into a strong lead. Rich pulled back a little but in the end not enough. Well played to Andy, winning in the shirt time of 1hr 40mins!

On the other court Sam vs Adam
Polar opposite to Rich/Andy next door this was a display of "no nonsense" from Sam. Didn't see a single shot but fair to say Sam in the zone here! 1-1 on the night

Next up, Nilen vs Ferg
Always a good match up between these two. As I came off court the score was 2-1 to Ferg, with Lennox's summary of the match so far being "the most ridiculous attacking match, theres been about 25 nicks already!" from what I saw this continued to be the theme, Ferg being reminded "not to take a big lead because Nil will relax and slap nicks constantly"... Which he did. Into the fifth and after an appeal for sympathy for cramp from Nil (not granted by Ferg), the match was eventually seen out. Great game and 2-1 to the 2s on the night.

Tom vs Jack
Earlier in the season Tom had played out of his skin to rob a 3-0 win off Jack and this clearly didn't sit well with him. Having taken some sizeable scalps throughout the season Jacks form continued in this, punishing anything that was even an inch off the wall! Tom put in some good Hugh pressure squash of his own and arguably played well enough but this was Jacks night. 3-0 and sealed the match for the 2s.

Last up (because why wouldn't we put the 2 retrievers on last?) Paul vs Mark
Well... If ever there was a game to finish off the season this was it. Mark off to a flyer, throwing in vicious boasts and cross court nicks aplomb but Paul not having any of it, picking up stuff he had no right to whatsoever. A real battle of wills throughout, each game was won by a string of High pressure squash at the end. All looked to be pointing to a 3-1 win to Mark when, at 6-0 up in the 4th (and 11.00 on the night) Paul went into cyborg mode again, first frustrating Lennox and then showing how his game has developed over the season by finishing off rallies! And so into the 5th,i went for a shower at this point but Jack described the winning shot from Mark as "the flattest nick you'll ever see".

So a fitting finale from what's been a good season by both teams. Quote of the night from Nilen, who claims he "could be world champion if we played to 5pts!". Congrats to the 2s who won the league by 17pts and an accomplished season for the 4s more than holding our own in our 2nd outing in Div 2.

Next season should be fun, thank God common sense and league rules have prevailed and we've all been put in the right divisions again following promotions, otherwise it'd be pretty boring wouldn't it?!
