Report: | Summer squash at its most quirky! BLTSC2 had a reasonably strong line-up - or so it thought. Paul and Keith prised off the golf course to play on a Monday night delivered the goods, Paul's accuracy and consistency being sufficient to deal with Guy's powerful drives and Keith's tighter game overcoming Pete Young's experience and guile. The surprises were lower down the rankings. Kelvin could not get into his stride against a fit and agile Richard (who capped his victory with the welcome news later that it was his first squash match in months!). It was not the night for drop shots - not mediocre ones anyway - as Morgan discovered later when struggling against Dave who had obviously just returned from a month's altitude training in the tropics. Both Richard and Dave retrieved almost everything that wasn't Evostuck to the walls, and that gave them plenty of scope. Woes for Bromley increased with the realisation that their no. 5 had forgotten the change of evening (notwithstanding lapses of short-term memory with age you would have thought that 8-day and 1 day reminders would fire up the odd temporal lobe neuron; planarian worms can be taught to remember things longer than that, though they do have a bit of trouble with reverse angles). Enough vitriol from a frustrated captain: well done Cannons with the first victory of the season.
Gary: your Divn 4 Sun head-line this week should read "Amnesic Bromley becomes Cannon fodder"... |
