Report: | This had the makings of a close encounter, Wildernesse having won on their home ground. First blood went to Kevin who was quick about the court and won the percentage game both with long rallies and deceptive drops. It was his first victory against Harvey. Keith was next to win, dominating the court and giving Peter no way into the match. At no. 5 Chris showed similar dominance against Kelvin, with virtually no errors and leaving Kelvin wondering what to do to break up his game. He was still wondering when the end came - swiftly! Mark put up more resistance but was painfully aware of his inability to change direction and Paul remained focused to put the match beyond doubt. That just left the no. 1s to fight it out. Dave and Rich gave a dazzling display of racquet skills, tenacity and resource until in the end Rich's legs protested after being harried too long by the younger (?!) man. So Bromley won the promotion contest and led the way to an end-of-season celebratory local Indian (Ruby's) that kept us off the streets until midnight. I suspect that Wildernesse will seek revenge for this defeat in the winter league. |
