Report

Report:A tight finish late in the night saw Bromley LTC take an away win 3-2. Paul Carnero new in at 2 had speed and stamina in abundance which trumped Lloyds racket skills. It should be said that Paul was not short on racket skills either, running out a 3-0 win.

Next on was Gordon v Ted. Gordon competed well but his drop shot did not seem to work on the night and that put pressuer on the rest of his game. When he kept it straight he stayed on level terms but Ted's skills showed with a 3-0 win.

In the meantime the fifth string Alex was taking on Gordon in a big five setter. On fast courts which were unusual for this time of the season the fitter and stronger player trumped the trickier player. Gordon's twirly backhands were not finding their mark with the bouncy ball and Alex's hard hitting to a length soon tired his opponent out. The bagel in the fifth was the icing on the cake though Gordon came off court mumbling something about double bounces!

Sam against Ket saw two similar players at fourth string with the ball speed again being decisive. Ket was allowed to retrieve to his heart's content as winners were hard to come by on a fast court with a fast ball. Frustration in his winning shots being retrieved repeatedly saw Sam lose his line and length and that played into Ket's hands with the Bromlwy player winning 3-1.

That left Paddy to take on Billy. Paddy is having a good season having worked on adding to his armoury of shots over the summer (which used to be the straight drive, and... the odd cross court) and now we see a drop shot and even a few drop volleys. All the points count and though for the match this was a dead rubber the three points from Paddy's 3-1 win will help us in the long term.

The curry was duly delivered by the usual delivery guy and a chaperone. They stopped to watch Paddy's silky skills, who thankfully was wearing the sponsor's shirt. They left happy and we enjoyed a beer and a curry with our opponents.
