Report

Report:Last night's encounter between PL and TW was notable mainly for the marathon match at no.5. Everything else fairly routine stuff with PL managing to nick a few points here and there.

First up: Peel snr v Powell
Didn't see any of this. Nick was in a big rush to get on and away due to forthcoming entry in Nationals Masters. Johnny is (or certainly was last night) more traumatised by the hug Nick gave him at the end of the match than concerned about his win. We'll discreetly draw a veil over the specifics, but suffice to say it was definitely in the too much information category!

Next door: Kay v Credland
This was the aforementioned marathon. It went on for ever. Neither player really went for anything, but there was a gargantuan amount of effort expended on both sides. Very tight in all games, and as in many other appearances this season, Paul (PL's redoubtable tail gunner) saved a bit of face for PL with another "leave nothing on the court" performance. Astounding levels of fitness and great court coverage by both. Luke was very unlucky not to complete a 5th game comeback, going from 6-10 to 11-10 followed by a couple of tame mistakes to hand it back to Paul.

Next up Kennedy v Barry
Two mutually incompatible schedules here. Gina keen to hotfoot it up to the Nationals straight after the match, and Jason racing down after a long day's coaching. Didn't really see any of this other than via peripheral vision as I was marking the marathon, but it was tight in all games. Jason appeared to be taking no prisoners as usual, but Gina gave as good as she got and looks to have been unfortunate not to capitalise on leads in the 2nd and 3rd.

Following on from the above: Peel jnr v Newberry
Another one not really observed by your trusty scribe, this time due to playing duties, but Jack looks to have had the usual pattern. A bright start to take the 1st. A close 2nd by which time Deano was into his stride and Jack fell away a bit thereafter. Nevertheless, a useful point.

Last on: London snr v Head
This was rather better (for the author) than the encounter in the 1st half at TW. Jolyon went off like a train as usual, crashing drives around while the author struggled to come to terms with straight from car, to marking for an hour plus, to straight on court. After the 1st things improved though and the 2nd was much tighter. A good start in the 3rd for the author provided some respite and resulted in a game being poached, but Jolyon was back on pace in the 4th, with only a late flurry of desperately scrambled recovery shots saving face for the author.

Very light on numbers in the bar afterwards, for a variety of reasons but overall, despite the result, an enjoyable encounter.
