Report

Report:Last one of the season and relegation to play for! Blackheath turned up one short for this bottom of the table encounter.

Most matches fairly routine stuff. Steve and Nick had a bit of a battle which I didn't see anything of due to playing duties. It sounded like it got a little niggly, but after a slow start Steve did enough to close it out.

London snr meanwhile had a bit of a see saw battle next door. The wheels came off totally in the 2nd with a massive mistake fest, but other than that, did enough to take it, with the 3rd being quite tight and decisive.

As ever, Paul managed a marathon, and whilst this was another one that would have the purist cringing at times, it lacked for nothing else. Ville played out of his skin for large chunks of the match, and you felt that had the fitness been better he'd have emerged victorious. Tactically he played very well. Unfortunately he made quite a few mistakes, some at crucial times, and as ever Paul has to be comprehensively beaten in any given rally. If not the ball will come back somehow. Paul would probably be the first to admit (and indeed saw the funny side when this was put to him) that this gave a whole new meaning to the term winning ugly. But win he did, so no argument to be answered.

Last on (at gone 9pm!!) James, who had to wait a lonnnggg time for Joss to negotiate the last (I'll be there in) 5 mins of his journey. As it turned out he was still in the car for the first two games, and JEJ made short work of the match.

So, far too late in the season the troops were (albeit probably temporarily) back on duty. Relegation avoided. Who knows what fun the summer and next winter will bring?
