Report

Report:As Alec Stock once said after his Fulham side reached the 1975 F.A cup final, "The boys done good". That also applies to my team mates after, what can only be described as a "shock result". Beating Cobdown has to be the highlight of our season so far. How fortunes change thou. When we played Cobdown at their place, I was the only winner on our side. And didn't I let my team know it. This time I was the only loser, after losing in 3 to Graham who was too good for me after I came close in the 1st game. And didn't my team mates let me know it.
Jim squared the match with a hard fought and entertaining game with David at No4. Jim's fine drop shot was in evidence and worked well.
My greatest motivational words this season have been "If you lose I'll move into your house and live with you" For some reason these words have a startling effect and bring out the best in my players. This was again true when Jack played Kevin at No 2. Jack was playing like someone not bovvered. (typical teenager). But after I issued my magic statement he transformed back into the Jack we know and won in 5 sets, coming back from 8-0 down in the 5th to win it 10-8. Kevin was understandably inconsolable. Especially when his team mates got into him.
The hero of the night was Jon-Marc.After toiling long and hard at No 1 this season, and losing every match, Jon-Marc finally won one. He proved to be too good for Mr Holdstock and deserved the 3-0 win. I am particularly pleased for J-M. He has been unlucky to lose some matches this season but has still been willing to turn out each week for the team, which has been much appreciated by me.
Steve and Bob played out a memorable 5 set match. Steve loves to get his money's worth with 3 of the sets going to 9/10. Fortunately two of them were for Steve. However, Bob played very well and the match was very entertaining. Much "oohs" and "aaarghs" from the watching crowd.Steve nicking it 3-2.
Simple food by me. Meat pies, salad and French bread. It all got eaten so it couldn't have been too bad. Nice people from Cobdown. Welcome back any time.
