Report: | With a rather weakened team, match kicked off with Roger playing at 3 against old adversary Keith. Many points were hard fought but the quickness of Keith and accurate volleying got the better of Rogers trickle boasts and lengths shots and Keith won 3-0. Meanwhile, debutant Richard took on Gareth at 5. Richard went off like a steam train going 7-0 up - Gareth then got his game back together and fought back to 7-8, before Richard took the game with one of his 100mph shots. Gareth started to get a grip on the game and Richard was having difficulty with serving above the red-line, although he told Phil he should go to spec-savers. Following games saw Gareth putting loose shots away and Richard trying to hit the ball even harder with even less accuracy. 3-1 to Gareth but well done Richard - very entertaining. Talking about entertaining, Nick and Steven had a real battle. Nick with his troubled hamstring was even trickier than usual, hitting winners from all over the place. Steven played his usual steady game and his fitness gradually overcame the unpredictable Nick - 3-2 to Steven - good match. Keeley and Ross - long, long game, both retrieving well, varying the shots and both finding it equally difficult to put the ball away as the ball got hotter and hotter. Keeley was more in control at the beginning and took the first game. From then on, control went back and forth and Ross won the final game 9-7. Good quality match, supportive gallery, with Keeley's girls being the loudest before the match, during the match and after the match!!! Last on Brian, playing first Priory match for years - didn't see the match but Brian tells me he was fully in control and had his opponent on the run in the 3rd. Others said, Luke played well and his control kept him ahead and won 3-0. Good match. |
