Report

Report:A great evening of squash with Bexley reaping the benefits from a slightly weaker Knole team.
The evening started with some great squash from the 5's with the Bexley pocket rocket just getting the better of Jarrod in the 5th. Comments from the balcony about the quality of the 5’s were in abundance from the Bexley squad. The 4’s; Rob started well against Fernando going two up with obvious thoughts of a pint of bitter on his mind. Fernando ( a San-Miguel man obviously ) wasn't about to let Rob up for an early pint and stole the 4th. In days gone past, this would have seen the end of ‘old-Rob’, but this the 2016 summer season and we have a ‘new-Rob’ with an improved squash attitude, which took him to victory. Onto the 3’s. What can I say? Gurkan played like a squash gazelle leaping and springing around the court like his son, Kieran. In fact if it wasn't the obvious height difference between father and son, it might have seemed to Knole that we had substituted a ringer. The 2’s? Well I had to set about JC as he returns to Bexley with the reputation as a giant killer. We are still giving Nanu counselling for his recent defeat and Paul Wainright is having sleepless nights for the getting a foot fault on game ball, but the less said about this the better. So the 1’s. Lilli started with her classic squash style, nice lengths and fantastic retrieving, which suits Tim as he can dig and retrieve for quite a long time. The first game could have gone either way, but Lilly kept her head and snuck the win. A brief conversation around the water fountain from Captain Willis about the benefits of playing ugly squash occasionally, seemed to have helped as she set about putting the match to bed in fairly short order bringing Bexley their first 5-0.
As always, a pleasure to host the Knole gents and thanks to JC for marking ½ of a game.
