Report: | Pockets of brilliance from both teams although not sadly from yours truly. Lotti started the Bexley campaign with a strong win against Mark. Lotti was asking for a rule change if she plays bigger (only taller Mark!!) players as she can't see the ball when they are in front of her. I have submitted this request to the PSA as it could impact a few more games this season, but the quick reply from the PSA was “sorry, she needs to grow or do better drops so her opponent can’t get it back” A very harsh response in my view and I shall be lodging an appeal whilst researching non-marking 6cm platforms for squash shoes. There could be a gap in the market.
Anthony followed on with a good win against Richard. Then Bromley brought on the secret, or not so secret weapons. Keeley and Lily had what is becoming a regular humdinger with both players showing beautiful touch and power when required. This time it was Keeley's patience in the rallies, combined with her retrieving and lack of mistakes, which took her to a 3-1 win.
Secret weapon number 2, Mr Pusey needs little introduction for those of us who have been playing longer than a week. The way he arrives at the club, shakes hands and greets the opposition with his laid back (almost horizontal I may add) attitude could be termed villainous. After putting his opponents at ease, he then proceeds to go about the business of winning . Following his ambrosial performance on the court, he proceeded to rack up the style points in the bar by sporting a jaunty jumper draped over his shoulders with matching blue loafers. I didn’t know 90’s fashion is back, I must keep up.
I would love to write something heroic about the captain but quite honestly, I got duffed up by a much better player. Well done Danny.
On a final note, I hope League master is incorrect and Bromley 4 & 5 didn’t play out of order. I would like to think the result would have been the same so it would be unfair for penalty points to be attributed for an innocent mistake.
It is always a pleasure to host Bromley CC ladies and gentlemen and I look forward to seeing you on the return
