Report

Report: Welcome Blackheath - first on Nick v Dan and Mark v Tom. Nick lost the first 2 points before producing some of the best squash he has played since his return and raced to 8-2 up, before doing his usual of letting his opponent in and Dan clawed back to 6-8 with some good retrieving and hard long shots. However, Nick continued to play quality shots and won 9-6. Nick continued to roll back the years, reverse angles, deft drops and delayed lobs left Dan rushing round wondering where the ball would go next - Dan did some good retrieving but when in a winning position he decided to hammer the tin and Nick won 3-0. Meanwhile on Court 3, fresh from his 3-0 win the previous week, Mark went 2-0 down and rallied back in the 3rd to take the game and make it 1-2 . Despite Mark throwing his slim like physique across the court, delaying procedures while the floor was mopped, Tom had good control, read the game well and was a deserved winner. Alastair and Kevin next on - didn't see much of this game so no comment - I heard Alastair was unlucky, robbed by the marker, Kevin was lucky point after point off the edge of the racquet - the truth was Kevin was too tight, good volleys and was a deserved winner. (well kind of)!! So, 2-1 to Blackheath. Steve v Greg - well Steve continued his man on fire reputation and raced to a 2-0 lead, dropping only 4 points. Steve then decided to go on a walk about, Greg kept his fitness up and punished Steve's loose shots with well controlled drops and half-court volleys. 2-2 and Greg on top. Game 5 and Greg continued to stay on top going 6-0 up - oh no!! Somehow, Steve found his Man on Fire game and rallied back to 5-6 down, then 6-6- and then Greg went 8-6 up with match ball. Steve pulled out the Bermondsey boy grit and got it back to 8-8 and Greg made a decision to go for no set, and called 1. The balcony was aghast, well his team were. Steve served, Greg boasted a return and Steve did a fore hand drop to take the match. Greg's team disappeared to the bar!!! At interview, Greg reported that by going for 1, he thought he would.......up Steve's head - hhhmmmm - his team agreed a .......up!!!! So decider Keeely and Ashley (I will run all night and run again). A good quality match but Keeley is on top of her game at the moment(thanks to Mark's coaching) - Keeely chased everything down, kept driving wide and long and had Ashley retrieving from all the corners on the squash court - which Ashley did really well but it left him unbalanced to play any winners and Keeley was relentless - a good, entertaining game but on the night Keeley maintained control and won 3-0. A good evening, close match with Greg to attend a maths course.
