Report: | Bromley got off to a flier in the contest of the number twos when Tony Davies, making his first appearance of the summer season, brought Steve Spring's seven match winning streak to an end. Tony performed at a high level, and ran out a 3-0 winner. Bexley captain Gareth Bacon levelled the match by winning his encounter with Mike Neville 3-0, before a superb performance from Vic Hulland saw off John Santilli 3-0. It was much closer than the score suggests, with two 10-8 games, but Vic showed fine form to win it. A topsy-turvey game between the two number three players saw Meir Mizrahi eventually overcome Kevin Giminez (playing on his 36th birthday - there's dedication for you....)3-2, wrapping up the match for Bexley in the process. The highest quality match of the evening was, as ever, the contest by the two number one players. Bromley's Dan Sweeney won the first game against Luke Grindle 9-2 and saved two game points in the second before nicking the game 10-9. Luke seemed to revive and, having taken the third 9-3 and built a 6-4 lead in the fourth, he seemed set to push the match into a decider. However, a couple of loose shots at this point let Dan back in and he won five points in a row to seal the game 9-6 and the match 3-1. Overall a 3-2 win for Bexley - Thank you Bromley for a good evening, we'll see you in the return match. |
