Report: | Bromley CC 3rd team lost out to Nuffield 2nd team in what was their 9th...... yes NINTH 3-2 defeat of the season.
1st on court was Kevin vs Paul. Kevin got off to a flyer going 5-0 up very quickly. However Paul fought back and played some great volley interceptions and took the 1st 9-6.
The 2nd game was more comfortable for Paul with him hitting good lengths and keeping Kevin from settling. 9-4.
In the 3rd Paul stormed to an 8-0 lead. However Kev dug deep and got it back to 6-8. Paul then finished off the tie to take the final game 9-6 wrapping up a nice 3-0 lead. Kevin by far the most consistent player in the whole league with an incredible record of 10 games played.... 10 defeats. What a guy !!
On the next court was Ross vs Dave S. I only saw the last game of this match which Ross took to win 3-1. Both players had left nothing on court and Dave especially looked like a beetroot as he left the court.
John Santilli had an epic 5 setter match with Dave Harper.
Dave shot off to a 2-0 lead and looked comfortable but John then won the next 2 and with Mr Harper looking dead on his feet there was only going to be one winner here...... but Dave wasn't having any of it and dispatched John 9-0 to take the match 3-2. Meanwhile Mrs Santilli was on the red wine in the clubhouse none the wiser as to what her husband was doing,
On to the 2nd seeds and Tony and Darren started off at an incredible pace. The quality of squash was superb. Tony took the 1st 9-4 and once in to his stride he did not look back taking the 2nd 9-0 and the 3rd 9-1. A very friendly and cuddly match :-) 3-0 Tony.
So with the game all square at 2-2 it was down to the number 1 seeds Dan and Mark to settle the tie.
Mark took the 1st game 9-3 and was covering every inch of the court. A much closer 2nd game saw Mark win 9-7.
Dan was much better in the 3rd game and took an impressive 9-3 win.
Mark however was too good in the 4th and came out a deserved winner 3-1 giving Nuffield the match.
Well done Nuffield.
