Report

Report:They say it is all over when the fat lady sings and as I write this in the morning, the female with the under-active thyroid gland has parped her final aria.

I have to start with our Birdie, or as I am currently referring to him as Arfer until he actually finishes the job he started for me. Birdie mentioned he needed to get away early as he was setting off for an early ferry for a holiday in south Dover (well Britany to be accurate but not much difference). Two things struck me as strange, 1) Do people still take ferries? 2) Was this a 99p deal from the Sun newspaper? I digress.

So keen was he to get away, that he ran around the court like a man with his pants on fire and completely ignored the well-established rules pertaining to style points. Phoebe, who is a stylish player, mentioned in the bar afterwards that she thought it outrageous that when she had clearly played a winning shot with a beautifully held poise for the camera and applause from gallery, Dave ignored the recognised etiquette and had the audacity to reach the ball and play it into a position she wasn’t prepared for. We shall have words Arfer.

Well done to our newest player Zach. A great game to mark and both players making every effort to get the ball rather than play the marker. Rob was just a little too experienced and noticed the young buck was a danger if the ball was hit hard, so some strategic lobbing was used, which saw him through to victory.

Gurkan the gazelle bounded around the court with a spring in his step we haven’t seen all year. A really nice game to watch and full marks for effort, however, Pete just had the fitness and stamina to get the win.

Rob 2016 came out to play but couldn't find a way last Adam’s reach and fitness. Still he put in a good team performance and I hope he carries on in the winter season.

It is at this point, I have requested the Russian hackers provide details on any medication James has taken, because I am sorry, the speed he got around the court to retrieve winners was outrageous. OK, Dave may have been giving away 30+ years to James, but Dave is no slouch and on numerous occasions sent James the wrong way with a sweetly struck ball only to find it returned with interest. Great game chaps, but next time we will need James to tie his laces together and hop to even things up.

A pleasure to host Limpsfield and best of luck in the winter.
