Report

Report: A 5-0 win for Bromley against a weakened, but still competitive Old Wilsonians team. First up Richard versus Jolly Alan. Richard proved too quick and with improved shot selection won 3-0. Alan seemed to find himself in the right position to play winning shots but only managed to consistently tin everything. Meanwhile Keeley and Gerald played a long and competitive match. Although Keeley won 3-0, the games were all hard fought - Gerald with good mobility, delayed boasts and good lengths matched Keeley in the early rallies. However, Keeley's consistency of pace, speed to the ball and accuracy when in winning positions saw her wear Gerald down and force mistakes. 3-0 to Keeley. Steve, the mercurial Steve took on Tom (wearing green stripe trainers last seen at boot sales), Steve always looked comfortable and in command and took the first game comfortably. Tom kept running and retrieving and gradually put Steve under more pressure and the games became closer. I say mercurial Steve as one minute he was tinning easy drops and the next minute hitting volley nicks, normally kept for the prerogative of first team players - Steve closed the match out with 2 such winners. Scott was playing new boy Clifford - again a hard fought match - Clifford new to competitive squash showed his tennis and racquet skills volleying well, good touch round the front and good agility around the court - however, Scott is on a roll - with his 60's hippy long-haired unshaven look, showed a bit of class in shot selection, keeping Clifford off-balance and hitting hard and low cross court winners. 3-0 to Scott. Finally, Stewart v Gary. First 2 games Stewart in control, good movement, accurate lengths and kept Gary scrambling round the court. Third game saw Gary moving better, picking out his own winners and putting Stewart under more pressure - much more competitive game with Stewart having to raise his game which he did by picking up the pace and winning 9-7. Stewart later said he lost concentration - thinking about how many spare ribs he could take home for his dog as 2 of the opponents had to leave early. Thanks to Old Wilsonians, always an enjoyable match - if they get their normal players back, together with new boy Clifford, they are going to be hard to beat.
