Report

Report: Top of the table clash with both number 1's missing. The points score not reflecting how tight and competitive the match was. First on number 5's and number 3's. Richard soon into his stride and running away with the first game, 9-3. Alex reversed the process in the second winning 9-5. Looking close - but not to be be - Richard tactically much improved tightened up his game, taking more care with moving his opponent round, 9-0. Hard hitting Alex got back into the 4th, good retrieving, some good winners and more competitive. Richard stayed controlled and Alex once more tried to break the tin, leaving Richard to win 9-6. Meanwhile what a battle between Danny and Steve. Danny 8-4 up in the first and in control, only to let Steve get back to 8-8 before narrowly losing 10-8. This gave Steve the impetus to get back into the game - Steve retrieving everything and then putting loose shots away with his straight jab drops, 9-5 to Steve. Danny continued to be ultra defensive and Steve now confidently handling Danny's lobs and cross courts, 9-4 to Steve. A good talking to for Danny who then completely changed his game - he started thinking!!! Hard low drives to the corners restricting the time Steve had to volley and drop, 9-1 to Danny. Final game Danny maintained his winning game and Steve not able to respond to the change in tactics, 9-1 to Danny. Excellent game. Steve against Dave. Steve controlled the first against a struggling Dave with his bad knee, 9-2. Steve warmed up, got competitive and went 6-6 in the second. However, Steve maintained control and won 9-6. Dave continued to be competitive, urging himself forward, but to no avail - Steve maintained control, delayed boast, accurate drops and drives saw Steve win 9-5.Meanwhile Scott v Alex. Alex like the rest of his team seem to be on a fitness kick - speeding around the court, reaching the unreachable, never beaten!!! made for a good competitive match. However, the technical nouse of Scott together with good shot selection saw Scott go 9-5, 9-0 up. As is often the case after a player loses a game to love, Alex came back even more determined and with some great retrieving and good forehand drives was level at 6-6, before Scott once again showed how to close out a game, taking it 9-6. A classy performance. Finally, Stuart and Gordon resumed their inter-club battles, and battle it was. Stuart taking the first 9-3, quick onto the ball and forcing Gordon into mistakes. Second game Gordon back into it, volleying everything, stretching Stuart around the court and with more accurate winners took the 2nd, 9-7. Gordon now on a roll, continually keeping Stuart under pressure with accurate drops, great retrieving and took the 3rd, 9-4. Stuart changes his game, stops giving Gordon the chance to volley, making him reach down in the corners and taking back control - runs out 9-1. By now Gordon had given his all and despite some great retrieving, Stuart was on it, lengths, drops, winners and won 9-1. So, what looks like a comfortable win , was in fact hard won and very competitive. Well done team.
Mac-Skip.
