Report: | What a night it was, it really was!!
Top of the table clash, saw a sporting very competitive match. First on Keeley v Rhys and Scott v Nolan. Keeley started like a rocket, fast, accurate squash, catching Rhys off the pace and wins 9-3. Likewise Scott, fast, accurate, good range of shots wins 9-1. Great start - hold on!!! Rhys stops looking up to the balcony, then picks up the pace, hits winners round the front of the court and Keeley forced into mistakes. Likewise, Nolan, chases down everything, good mixture of shots and takes the game 9-1. Back to Keeley and Rhys. Keeley finds her focus, steps up the pace with hard cross court drives and lengths and keeps Rhys stretching and off balance, restricting his choice of shot. Despite his quickness round the court, Rhys loses momentum and Keely comfortably takes the 3rd and 4th games and knocks up the bar bill drinking Prosecco . Meanwhile, Scott and Nolan real see saw of a match. One leg Scott, showing his classy shots, attacking drives and Nolan running around like a gazelle, picking everything up and particularly accurate backhand drops. Nolan keeps his consistency up, moving Scott around and takes a great match 3-2. So, 1-1. On goes Richard v Steve (yet another runner)!! Steve made good use of his experience, strong forehand, speed around the court and forced Richard into the corners and into errors. The harder Richard tried, the looser he got and despite winning some challenging rallies, Steve stayed in charge and won 3-0. On come Man on Fire, Steve v Mike. First game very competitive - Mike again a runner, accurate drives and quick to the front. Steve going for usual winners on the forehand and moving Mike around. 7-6 to Mike who then hit the tin with an easy drop - Steve steps in and hits 3 straight winners to take the 1st 9-7. Second game very competitive to start with- Mike keeping his running and retrieving going - Steve getting tired then thought more about his shots, catching Mike flat-footed and from 4-4 wins 9-3. This meant Bromley had secured enough points to win the league and was accompanied by raucous singing and chanting - Poor old Mike, he thought the Millwall supporters had arrived and gradually succumbed in the 4th, 9-4. So 2-2. On comes Stuart, better known as Gotts!! Poor old Gottsie faces yet another runner ( what are Park Langley on)? - First game Nick retrieving well, pushing Gotts round the court who played wonder shots and tins in equal amounts. Nick takes 8-5 lead - Come on Gottsie!!! One lucky volley and gets hand in and takes the game 10-8. Second game - similar pattern, Nick 8-5 up (thinks to himself, I've been here before!!!) - while he was thinking about it, Gotts gets hand in and again wins 10-8. Gotts back to form - remembers the tin is DOWN! and Mick still wondering what went wrong loses the 3rd, 9-2. Well done to both teams - some high quality squash and thanks to supporters, especially the noisy ones. |
