Report: | So the high flying boys from PL rocked up to KP last night resplendent in their nice sponsored shirts.
First up Creeky v Andy the battle of the lefties at Number 5. I didn’t see all of this match but Andy had a bit too much for JC despite being pushed close in a couple of games and using all the tricks in his repertoire Andy prevailed but JC obviously put the effort in as the tracksuit top was removed. Loss 3-0
Next up Mike versus Kevin at Number 2. Having experienced two very close losses to Kevin in the past the author is very much experienced in his game, he is a quality player that can tend to be a bit "streaky". Kevin has the ability to string a run of poor shots together (and even at one point practiced a missed drop shot missing it again) but then springs back and plays some amazing sequence of point winners. Mike is playing some really nice squash at the moment, he is leaner and fitter and his game is benefiting from this. Mike built nice leads in all three games through a combination of his clever play and Kevin’s poor streak only for Kevin to then regroup and clean up. No disgrace to lose to Kevin and good improvement by Mike. Loss 3-0
Tim followed Right Hand court against a young Lee Greenwood who apparently was coming back from an arm injury. Looking at the Knock-up it seemed that arm in not affecting him at all and he was moving and striking the ball very crisply. Due to marking duties on the other court I saw very little of this game and it appeared that Lee had the upper hand through it all although I believe that Tim stretched one game to set so again a very fine effort against a very handy oppo. Loss 3-0
Next up Niall versus Stuart. Stuart is a confident chap and is not short on backing himself. Niall managed to spend five minutes getting to the club this week as opposed to the two hours it took previously but it is likely that the previous weeks driving exertions promoted the back pain that almost caused him to cry off. Taking one for the team he took to the court fearing Back twisting issues but actually moved very well on court so problems didn’t materialise. The problem is that Stuart is playing very well and started off by crunching the ball in the first to the extent that Niall hardly had a look in losing it 9-0. You may recall recently that Mike came up against Stuart with a triple bagel result so exercising Niall at the start of the second was trying not to let lightning strike twice. This he duly managed and started to string some nice rallies together with a number of hand-in / hand-outs by taking pace off the ball, pace that Stuart was absolutely feeding off. Despite gallant efforts Niall failed to put any points on the board for KP. Loss 3-0
Last on DF versus Brett. The idea behind DF returning to team action was to place him at 3 and allow a period of gentle introduction. Playing at three last night would not have been easy at all but playing at one due to the absence of James (Injury) and Will (Business?!?) the gentle introduction was rudely interrupted. James has had successful battles with Brett in the past but DF came across a player who chased and harried everything. DF still a little rusty played some poor shots and some nice ones but the nice ones at the front were too often picked up by Brett and played back with interest. One rally highlighted this in that DF played two wrong footed lobs only for Brett to scramble them both back and force DF into a mistake to win the rally. Brett too strong all round and comfortably ran out a winner. DF plenty to work on but not disheartened with where he is at. Loss 3-0
So maths might not be your strong point but even I can add five lots of 0 up to produce 0. PL are a strong outfit and will be there and there abouts at the end and with KP at less than full strength tremendous efforts all round and no disgrace. Good banter in the bar afterwards and food up to its usual standard. |
