Report

Report:The winter season kicked off with a very tight match as Old Wilsonian's took the short trip to Plaistow Lane.

1st up on court we had Sam vs Dave and Kevin vs Luke.

Sam vs Dave was always going to be a battle of the lungs as these 2 guys will run and run.

Playing on the other court at the same time meant I didnt get to see this but it was a very long game with rallies that lasted ages.

Skipper Dave took and early lead 5-9 for Sam to level it up 9-6.
A more dominant Dave took the 3rd 2-9 however the 4th game was a monster of a game. Both players giving their all meant that Sam was dead on his feet however the white Mo Farah Dave still had loads left in the tank and finished the match off with a 7-9 win to take the game 1-3. Good effort from both.

Captain Kev was facing his old team and good friends in Old Wilsonian and despite still being a member at Old Wils he had never faced his opponent Luke in a proper match.

The 1st game had many hand outs but Kev took it winning 9-6.

Luke however fought back and gave Kev a bit of a pasting 3-9 to level it up.

Kev returned the favor in the 3rd with his own 9-3 whopping to jump to a 2-1 lead but then Luke decided that another 9-3 scoreline was needed so leveled it up 2-2 with a 3-9 win.

Luke started off flying in the 5th after advice from Nick Thompson and took a 3-7 lead. NOT ANOTHER 9-3 surely ? No. It wasn't to be.

Like a phoenix from the flames Kev battled back and dug deep in to that large gut for all he had and went on a run of 6 points in a row to take the game and the match winning the last 9-7. The fist pump and roar at the end showed how much it meant to get the win against his old club. Unlucky Luke.

1-1

Stuart Clarke and Gary Kelly next up and after 2 months out with injury (after playing Kev) Gary was always going to find it hard going.

Stuart showing his experience with a very comfortable and classy win 3-0.

A fit Gary would have made for a much better and tighter game.

2-1 Bromley

Giles vs Nick next and I only saw a bit of this as was marking but from what I did see there was plenty of quality on show from both players.

Giles taking the 1st 9-5 only for Nick to fight back and take the game 3-9 to level it up.

Nick on a roll took a 2-1 lead winning 7-9.

Giles fought hard and got the next game 9-5 to take the match in to a deciding 5th.

Sadly for Giles he couldn't stop the errors and Nick played more steady including some lovely back hand drop cuts to the front left corner. 4-9 to Nick and a well deserved 3-2 victory. Well played boys, great effort from both.

2-2

Last up we had the number 1 seeds Tony vs Gerald. Some really nice rallies in this match however Tony with too many shot selections for Gerald to deal with.

9-1 in the 1st.

Gerald fought back valiantly and had Tony sweating and on the back foot taking a 6-3 lead. Tony fought back hard and managed to grind out the win 9-6.

Sadly for Gerald Tony came out in the 3rd and was totally dominant. Gerald playing some tight shots down the line but Tony at full stretch still managing to return the balls with more than interest on them.

The game ended as the 1st did with another 9-1 to Tony which won him his match 3-0 and gave Bromley the victory 3-2 on the night.

Lovely hosting our friends from down the road and we look forward to gracing the Old Wilsonian courts later on in the season.
