Report

Report:Bexley 5's traveled down to Plaistow Lane to face Bromley 4's on possibly the coldest squash night of the winter season so far.

1st up trying to get their balls warmed up and then the squash ball, was the battle of the skippers Kev and Nanu.

1st game saw a very tight affair with plenty of hand outs but it was Kev who took the 1st game in the end 9-4. The tight drops seeing to do the trick.

Nanu (after words of advice) tightened up and played much more accurate squash in the 2nd and took the game 9-2.

The 3rd saw a much closer contest as in the 1st, however this time it was Nanu who took the game 9-7.

Kev gave all he got in the 4th and came back from 7-4 down to get back to within 1 point. However that would be all the points he could muster with Nanu closing out the 4th 9-6 and the game 3-1. 1-0 to Bexley.

Up on the court alongside the skippers were Giles aka Tin Man vs Christo the bullet story teller.

Didn't see any of this as was next door playing however I hear many tins were hit by Giles and he should have at least won 1 of the 3 games played.
Sadly for Bromley he lost them all and Christo put Bexley in to a commanding 2-0 lead.

Next up we had Stuart vs Zach. Both of these at the different ends of their squash lives.

1st game saw quite a few hand outs to start with and young Zachary (who has over taken me height wise since I last saw him....not hard I know) was buzzing around the court and playing some lovely lengths.

Stu however was matching the lengths and then some. Tricky boasts and deception the key to Stuart taking the 1st 9-4.

I didn't manage to see any more of this as I went over to mark the number 1's (what joy) but Zach did himself proud against a very classy opponent in Stuart who has found his fitness and has managed to steer clear of injuries to them dodgy old knees.

3-0 to Stu. 2-1 Bexley.

The 1's up next and Tony vs Paul.

The 1st match saw Tony hitting very loose and nowhere near his normal tight self. Paul was putting the pressure on and was playing some real good squash with some beautiful back hand volley drops.

Tony though dug deep and the grit and determination he is oh so renown for shone through to take the close game 9-6.

The 2nd saw another close game but Tony again taking it 9-6.

The 3rd game was where Tony pushed on and the accurate hitting was well and truly back. Plenty of high lobs to take the pace down when needed and plenty of aggressive finishes to get the points needed in a very deserving 9-2 win. 3-0 Tony and the match locked at 2-2.

To decide the nights winners was left to the number 2 seeds Sam and Mark.

Only seeing the last of the 3 games which was actually the closest of all 3. Mark was flying around the court diving and giving it his all but Sam had too much experience in the end and with 2 relatively easy games saw him battle back from 8-2 down to win the 3rd 10-8 on the tie break.

That meant that Bromley took the win on the night 3-2 in what was a very enjoyable night of squash.

See you at Bexley in the 2nd half guys :-)
