Report: | The battle of Hastings, the battle of Waterloo...... and now the battle of Plaistow Lane.
Have you ever seen someone with an alice band in their hair run up the stairs for a row ???? Plaistow lane has !!!
4th team versus champions elect 3rd team and 3 out of 5 games played with great spirit and with smiles and hugs. The other's not so much lol
1st up on court was Ian vs Keeley. UK and European over 40's champ Keeley was showing her class with her accurate drives and her ever so impressive trickle boasts. She took the 1st 9-6.
Ian came out in the 2nd and the power was strong and relentless. 9-3.
The 3rd was a very good game of squash and could have gone either way. Both retrieving balls they shouldn't but Ian taking more points 9-7.
The 4th saw the same score to Ian to give him a very impressive 3-1 win against a quality opponent. Good win Ian.
Sadly for the 4th's that would be the only game they would win on the night.
Stuart Clarke however came very close to getting a great win agains the skillfull Dan Sweeney.
Both of these are absolute wizards with a racket and were playing some tight accurate squash.
I only saw patches of this as was marking but it was a game that could have gone either way. Sweeney taking the 1st 2 only for Stuart to fight back and level it up at 2-2.
Sweeney however won the 5th in a close 9-6 game. Well played both.
Dan Sweeney celebrated by smashing down 6 Estrella's. It was a much cheaper bar bill when he was signed up for the London Marathon !!!
Me vs Steve Pusey next up and once again Steve had too much in his locker for me.
I had a lot of winners up the front of the court with some nice deception (Steves words). Steve decided to keep me at the back of the court as much as he could because of this and it worked a treat. Once again myself giving my opponent volley practice and with someone as good as Steve them volleys always become winners !
3-0 Steve. Well played mate, enjoyable game x
Sam vs Scott on next and again I only saw little bits of this. I did however hear most of it :-)
Scott struggling with a knee injury had rested up to play in this local derby and playing the duracel bunny Sam was not what he needed.
Scotts shots absolute class and 2 of the 5 games see him win 9-2 and 9-1 but Sam has improved so much and took 2 games of his own 9-6 and 9-4.
The deciding game saw Scott take it 9-5 to win 3-2. A very plucky performance from Sam but Scotts ability proving too much.
The miracle of the night was when Sam's racket didn't smash against the side wall !! Maybe with better technique it would have broken :-)
Lastly we had Giles vs Gottsy. Gottsy was trying to get in to the heads of the 4th team by drinking from a can of stella pre game. I must admit I thought he had a serious problem until he said after the game it was full of water. haha
Stew started off like a man possessed (or pissed on stella flavoured water) and took early points to take an 8-3 lead. Giles fought back but 9-5 to Stew.
The 2nd game saw Giles play much better however Stew took it 9-6.
Giles remembered to stop hitting the tin and managed to win the next 9-7 but Stew replied with a 9-4 win to take the match 3-1.
It was a lovely game to watch with both playing some real nice shots. Stew sliding in to his trademark splits lunge position to get shots back and Giles covering the court well with some nice deceptive winners.
Well played both, good spirited game.
Well done to the 3rds on another win in their charge for promotion.
Nice drinks, food and laughs after..... thats what its all about.
PEACE AND LOVE X
