Report

Report:After a derby of 2 BCC teams last week it was another local derby again for the 4th team as Bromley Lawn Tennis traveled round the corner for this match up.

1st up on court was Stuart vs Garth.
Stu started off on fire and won the 1st 9-3 despite being confused as Garth looked more ready for bed than ready for a squash game with what can only be described as pajama bottoms on.

The PJ bottoms were running around and trying their hardest to stay in the match but Stu's shot selections and superb touches up the front were simply too hot for Garth to handle and Stu took the next 2 games for a comfortable 3-0 win and an early trip to bed for Garth :-)

Next up we had Ross vs Darius.
Ross hasn't been able to feature this season to him selfishly earning a promotion at work. How dare he.

So rusty Ross was up against a young whipper snapper in Darius and Ross's class shone through in the 1st 2 games as he took them both 9-5.

Red in the face and puffing Ross looked dead on his feet and Darius sensed this and pounced. He took the next 3 games dropping only 4 points.

A lovely game to mark with 2 very honest players.

Next was Sam vs Brian.

Sam the gazelle simply had too much spring in his step for Brian on this occasion. Brian has some lovely deceptive shots in his locker but as he found out Sam will retrieve most things.

1st game was a tight affair with Sam taking it 9-7 however the 2nd saw a more comfortable win for Sam 9-2.

Brian put up a better fight of it in the 3rd but Sam still came out on top and finished off his match 9-6 to claim a 3-0 win. Good win Sam and unlucky Brian.

The number 1 seeds next and stepping in for the injured Tony Davies was his best friend Andy Brackstone.

Facing Andy was the ever so crafty Gordan McManus. Now I have to admit I saw nothing other than a 3-0 win to Jordan here, however Andy played superbly in the 1st game and was dominating the T and taking the ball on the volley nicely and to my surprise took the 1st 9-1. Dreamland for the stand in number 1.

The dream however didnt last too long and Gordan replied back with a 9-1 of his own and had the big man doing doggies from side to side.

With Andy tired there was only going to be one winner and Gordon duly saw out the next 2 9-3 and 9-1 to win 3-1. Well played to both.

Last on court we had the exhibition match everyone had been dreaming about.... sorry, had been having nightmares about.

Locked in at 2-2 it was down to Skipper Kev (me) and Tiger Tim to settle the match.

There is no beating around the bush on this one, it was scrappy, it was funny (for the viewing gallery) but it was close. 2-2 on team scores and 2-2 on games meant the night was going to be decided with the very last game.

In the end it would be Kev to take the game and the match for Bromley 3-2.

Well played Tim.... sorry for the language on court :-(

Highlight of the night I am told was my attempt of a drop shot that pretty much landed on the service line. Awful !!

Anyway, a good night had again. Well played Bromley Lawn. See you again soon.
