Report: | A cold night at the lane as top of the table BCC3 welcomed Nuffield 2. With football on in the bar very few of the home supporters ventured out to watch the squash.
1st up was Steve and Old boy Peter. This was the battle of the GB vets. Steve has been in a good vein of form but Peter is a battle hardened opponent. Steve was again on fire playing his signature dinks and drops. He moved Peter all over. Mr young who has played at every level of the game couldn’t keep up with the much younger super stevie pusey (58) 3-0 BCC
2nd match. Scott vs Darren. After watching Darren beat Keeley in the first half of the season I knew this was going to be a tough match. I took the 1st and scampered to a 7-3 lead in the 2nd. Then after a long rally my lungs were burning and Darren came and took the 2nd 9-7. With a change of tactics I went into ninja mode. Trying to disguise everything. This seemed to do the trick and I took the next two games. 3-1 BCC
3rd up No1s Keeley vs Mark. Our No1 who is in training to defend her British title was up against a very fast opponent in Mark. Keeley battled hard to take the 1st, the unorthodox but very effective style of mark took the 2nd. Keeley with all of her years of team squash started hitting hard drives. The extra energy mark used just slowed him down half a yard and the little boasts and drops started to hit the tin. Even with some amazing retrieving mark could not stop Keeley. 3-1 BCC
No4s Danny and Dave. Danny another one of the team who has been hitting the ball very sweet of late. Danny flew to a 2-0 lead then dave started to battle. Dan can be guilty of going into “showboat” mode. Dave started picking off the lose shots. It was starting to get tight when Danny went back to his good quality basic squash. 3-0 BCC
Last on court (and to arrive, AGAIN!!) was Stu against Guy. You can tell when Stu has been watching squash tv on you tube he takes a step forward and takes the ball very early. He gets to boasts and plays drops on the up a tough thing to do. Guy played some good squash hitting a good length and a nice touch at the front but couldn’t keep up with Stu. Stu closed out with his trade mark Elvis style backhand drive, when he shapes up for the cross court and plays a drive. 3-0 BCC
The evening was finished off with a great curry and for this Debbie the chef, gets man of the match.
Good luck for the rest of the season Nuffield. |
