Away Report: | 'First off were the no 5s, Chris (standing in for hobbled Howard) vs Dave. After a cunning start when Chris opened up a nice lead, a steady mix of tight boasts and good length drives from Dave paved the way to a 3-0 win. Meanwhile Luis was playing Mark in a fractious encounter due mainly to a clash of styles. Mark’s speed gained him access to shots from Luis that against most Div 5 opponents would have been clear winners and Mark’s drop shots especially were working well. The marker struggled a bit too. Anyway Mark won 3-0. So, with another defeat staring the Lawns in the face on came Darius against Darren who beat him in their last encounter. Darius was more confident this time though and mixed his stunning retrievals with some accurate drops and boasts to break up Darren’s game. Nevertheless, the first game went to Darren, but Darius came back winning the next two. Darren picked off enough excellent drops to win the 4th before Darius powered his way to victory in the 5th. On the next court Tim also lost the first game, just, against Guy. This was Tim at or near his reliable best as he steadily drove, boasted and dropped his way to a 3-1 victory, albeit 10-8 in the 4th. So, it was up to Brian to play the decider against Paul. Sadly, I missed the whole of his game by taking Darius home. However, the despairing, saddened and distraught figure slumped in the changing room and staring into space (no, not another Russian assassination attempt) that was Brian told me the outcome. Brian won the 1st game but it was downhill after that. Little consolation that according to his team-mates Paul played his best squash in a long time. Hey ho, another loss. Boy, do we need the services of the new club coach!! However, a nice chicken curry lads. Thanks.' |
