Report: | First on were Darius and Gerald. After the first game it seemed that we'd soon be running ahead of schedule as Darius had no answer to Gerald's ruthless efficiency with a succession nice clean, tight, good-length shots. Darius, although playing much more loosely, was retrieving well and Gerald found increasing difficulty in sustaining the longer rallies. Darius' speed and stamina just won the day. Tim looked promising as he took the first game against Luke, but like the rest of the OW squad, Luke moved well and all too often seemed to make enough empty court to hit the ball into. The Thompson boys made short work of Brian and Garth, combining the fitness of youth with racquet skills. This left Luis and Hany as the final match. Hany's mind seemed to be elsewhere at times as the early games brought a number of unforced errors between some delectable drops and nicks. Luis kept focus and was far from phased by Hany's playful deception shots, anticipating a good percentage of them. It even looked as if Luis could win, almost recovering from a 1-8 deficit in the final game, but some masterful play gave Hany the match. A great game to watch, and some well-earned promotion is in store for OW. |
