Report: | The new summer season kicked off with us hosting Blackheath.
1st up was myself (Kev) vs Nick and not the way I wanted the season to start. Struggling with a cold and cough it was too late to get a replacement for me and I just couldn't breathe after a couple of rallies.
Nick I feel would have still won even if I was fully fit I feel but maybe would have been a bit closer. Sorry for the non event Nick but well done on seeing it out. 3-0 Nick.
Ross on the next court was facing Blackheath's captain Andrei 3000 and this one had a tad more running than the 1st match.
Ross started off very well and took the 1st 2 9-4. Looked like a nice easy 3-0 to Ross but Andrei had other ideas. He battled back to take a 9-4 of his own and then took the 4th 9-6.
Momentum looked to be in Andrei's favour but I don't call Ross the postman for no reason. He delivered the win yet again for Bromley and dug deep to take the 5th 9-2 in what was a thrilling match.
1-1
Up next we had Dan Schweeeeeeeeeny vs Paul Hunter.
Dan started off superbly and was dominating the game with his range of shot making too hot for Paul to handle. Dan took a 7-1 lead and it looked like a stroll in the park. Paul though managed to claw himself back to within 1 point of Dan.
That would be all he would win in that game as Dan took it 9-6.
The next game saw Paul take control and he won 9-2 to level it up. Danny guilty of trying too many winners that weren't there.
The next game though Danny took 9-7 with some outrageous winners at the right time and the 4th game saw pretty much the same pattern as Sweeny closed out the game 9-5 for a 3-1 win.
2-1 Bromley.
Next up was Sam "the gazelle" Warnett vs Richard PS. These 2 have had a couple of really close matches over the least couple of years but this one was a much more 1 sided affair.
Sam has improved technically and his court movement means he was picking up everything Richard threw at him.
Sam took the 1st 9-5 but the closer 2nd game saw him win 9-7.
The 3rd game however saw Sam finish off the job in style winning 9-4. In Richard's word "He never stops". A top win Sam which clinched the match for Bromley. 3-1.
Last up we had the number 1 seeds Tony Davies vs Simon Ruff.
Simon started off very well with his casual style and hard hitting causing Tony real problems. Simon raced to a 7-4 lead and it wasn't looking good for Tony. However Tony seems to have the knack of working out his opponents games and adapting his to suit and it was no exception on this occasion. 9-7 Tony.
Simon carried on with his hard hitting and bouncing around the court but Tony was too accurate and finished off the last 2 games 9-5 9-5 to win 3-0 and give Bromley the 4-1 win.
Bangers and mash the highlight of the night though after and with Tony taking home his Man of the Match award of around 9 sausages. The Davies's will eat good this week !
Thanks Blackheath, see you in the return leg.
