Report: | This night will go down as the night of the Beaty Swallocks ! Actually Tunbridge had Becky playing for them this night so a new name needed..... It was hot, very very hot !
1st up in to the sauna was myself and Thomas. Thomas was looking to avenge his 3-0 defeat to me in the winter season and was sporting a bright pink dazzling shirt and looking the part.
My tight black shirt hugging the red wine belly not so dazzling.
1st game I managed to take quite comfortably 9-3 with Thomas doing his best impression of our very own tin man Giles.
The 2nd game though saw Thomas tighten up and he took this one on the tie break 8-9. My call of set 1 did nothing to unnerve him :-(
Another tight game in the 3rd but luckily I managed to take it 9-6.
Thomas asked if I fancied a 5 setter in between the games.... No Tom... NO !
Luckily for me the last game was the 4th and I managed to see it home with a 9-7 win.
Thanks for the game Thomas, a top bloke and much improved from last time.
Schweeeeeeeny and Adam up on court 2 had got underway slightly after our game but Dan was on fire in the 1st apparently winning 9-3 with his trademark wizardry with the racket.
Adam though fought back and leveled things up with a 7-9 win.
Dan then gave him a 9-7 back to take a 2-1 lead.
I managed to see the last part of the 4th and Dan was being pushed all the way with Adam taking a large lead.
However Dan dug deep and played some high quality deceptive shots to see out the game 10-8 in the tie break to get the win for Bromley. 2-0
Giles up vs Becky the splits queen Bradshaw. I only managed to see a little bit of this match but there was still time to see plenty of tins from the tin man and 1 splits lunge from Becky.
A fast paced game from what I saw.
1st game a close contest as was the 2nd both 9-7 to each player. Giles then seemed to push on and took the next 9-4 and the last a 9-0 walloping.
3-1 Giles and a 3-0 to Bromley securing the win on the night.
Next up the number 1's Scott vs Richard.
The 1st game saw 8 hand outs before Scott made it 2-0. It was tiring just watching these 2 battle it out in the heat but Scott was tight and hitting some quality widths and they had to be good to get pass Richard who has the wingspan of a boeing 747.
Scotty managing to take the 1st game 9-5.
The second game was a quicker game and Scott managed to win this 9-4. It looked game over for Richard.
Rich though did not give up and after a grueling battle he managed to take the 3rd with a 8-10 tie break win.
Scott looked tired but he took an 8-2 lead and it seemed like it was just a matter of time. Richard though would simply not give up and he was retrieving and picking up shots that looked impossible. He won the next 7 points which took him to game ball.
Scott though was desperate not to play a 5th and gave everything he had to bring it back to 9-9 to stop the flow of Richards points.
Match ball for Scott and he duly took it to win 3-1 and claim victory in this very exciting match. 4-0 Bromley.
Finally on court we had Sam Warnett vs Paul Marsden. Paul playing for Tunbridge's pride and Sam going for the whitewash.
2 fast players here making for a very fast an furious match. Paul was smashing the ball so hard but Sam equally fast around the court managing to pick most shots, 9-4 Warnetto.
The 2nd game saw much of the same with Paul not really mixing up his game enough to catch the duracell bunny Sam out. 9-5 Sam.
The moment of the night came though in what would be the 3rd and final game of the night. Sam serving from the right box backhanded hit a complete who framed roger rabbit and sliced the ball back to the centre of the T to only just bounce in on Paul's side who was routed to the floor unable to react to the crazy spin this horrendous shot created. ACE !!!!!! The gallery cracking up with laughter and Paul wanting to cry.
Sam finished off Paul with a 9-2 game to take the match 3-0 and give Bromley a 5-0 win on the night.
Thanks for the match Tunbridge. Always a pleasure. See you at your gaff for the return.
