Report

Report:Top of the league Blackheath were the visitors to Bromley and they came very weak with their top 3 players missing.

Bromley had the same scenario when they visited Blackheath in period 1. Could Bromley take advantage of this situation as well as Blackheath had previously......YES.

1st up on the court that the night before hosted world number 17 Daryl Selby from Dulwich, was world number 1,899,023 your's truly vs Keith who was pulled in for a rare night of team squash.

The warm up saw Keith struggling to stay in the warm up rallies with plenty of tins hit. He also switched hands and was playing with left and right. Then needed some extra time to warm up his cold hands.

I think he hustled me as I started very flat footed thinking it would be stroll but Keith sprung to life and started hitting the ball cleanly and throwing in some boasts as my backside was hugging the back wall. 7-9 to Keith.

After a telling off from multiple people I decided to get my legs going and actually stand on the T and try my hardest showing no mercy to the now very warm Keith.

9-0, 9-1, 9-2 to me to take it 3-1. The wiley old fox Keith got in to my head so well played Sir.

On next court Ross the postman was ready to deliver the team his usual 3 points. 2-0 up in games I asked him during the break "comfortable ?" to which Ross replied "yep, but now ive said that kiss of death"..... he was right as Marc took the next game 3-9.

Ross managed to compose himself though and took the 4th 9-3 to get his win.

Stu Clarke next vs Ex England rugby captain Martin Johnson ... I mean Dan Slater.

Dan started well with some huge hard hits but once Stu got to grips with his game he gave Dan the run around twisting and turning the big man up with his usual magical touch.

Dan also managed to swat a few imaginary flies to my amusement. Unlucky Dan, Stu too good, 9-5, 9-3, 9-0.

Tony Davies up against Kevin Clark on the next court. Only managed to see the 1st half of the 1st game and Tony was doing his very best to impersonate our very own Tinman Giles Skillicorn. So many tins and unusual errors from Tony who usually is much more accurate. Kevin making it hard for Tony did really well (and also sweated loads) but Tony sussed it out and got back on track to win the 1st 9-5, then 9-3, 9-0.

Lastly the number 1 seeds. Sten with the short straw to step up and play Ian Mcmeckan.

The 1st game Ian cruised with Sten playing very loose and hitting everything down the middle. 9-0.

It looked like Sten wouldn't get a point at all but he played so much better in the 2nd game and was retrieving and hitting much better widths and lengths.

One huge rally took it out of Ian and Sten looked like he could get a game but the experience of Ian shone through and he managed to complete the 5-0 win for Bromley by taking the 2nd 9-5 and the last 9-4.

Thanks to Blackheath for the game.

See you again soon.
