| Report: | A close run match!! First up, skipper Mac v Reece and up and coming Junior. Reece flies ahead winning the 1st two games comfortably - Mac is all over the place and Reece is hitting winners at will. Third game saw Mac finding some of his old form and winning 11/8. Reece wakes up and narrowly loses the 4th, 13/11 after coming from 10/7 down. Mac now finding form and wins 11/5. Meanwhile quality squash with VEER V MARK. Good squash all round - Veer ( another Junior) wins the first, Mark the 2nd, Mark wins the 3rd and Veer tightens up his game and takes the 4th. The final game saw the good quality squash continue, good lengths, great retrieving, some good winners and the inevitable loose shots. Mark raced into a 7/3 lead, Veer fights back to go 8/7 up, then 9/9, Veer match ball, only to see his shot go down - 10/10, the balcony ooos and arrrghs, with Mark just being the steadier and winning 14/12.
Next on Giles v Freddie ( another Junior, although he is about a foot taller than anybody else). Another good quality and very competitive match. Freddie playing very correctly with lengths and some good drives from the front of the court. Giles good speed to the ball, keeping the pace going, wins the 1st, 11/5. Freddie comes back strong in the 2nd, putting Giles under pressure, who plays true to his name "The Tin Man" and Freddie wins 11/8. 3rd game, Giles comes back, picking up all Freddies shots, who now gets too cautions and takers the pressure off Giles who wins, 11/8. 4th game, close, close, close, 9/9, 10/10, with the energy of Giles edging a victory 13/11. Finally game OAP, Paul v Taidgh, a Junior, Junior. Games swing back and forth - Taidgh winning the front court game, Paul winning the back court game. Taidgh starts fast and takes the 1st, 11/7. Paul wakes up and takes the next 2. 4th game at 9/9/, sees the touch of Taidgh outwit Paul at the front and wins 11/9. Final game another close match, this time plenty of noise on the court! Paul thought he was playing 3 players at the same time - Close to 6/6, with Taidgh taking the 5th, 11/8. (Paul winning 2 games gave the overall victory to Bromley - that's what Paul kept saying !!! Close matches, a good evening with plenty of Pizza to take home - the Juniors all had to go and finish their homework!! |
