Report

Report: First up Veer v Hugo. First game saw some good quality squash from both players with Veer matching Hugo for pace and accuracy. The 2nd and 3rd games saw Hugo taking control with accurate volley drops and defensive shots keeping Veer on the back foot. 3-0 to Bromley LTC - an admirable performance by Veer considering Hugo played 2 against out first team in Division 1, just a few weeks ago. Meanwhile Jake and Michael were having a real ding dong of a match. Jake scampering all over the place, Michael often being caught off balance by Jake's retrieval. Jake takes the first and looks on top. Michael fights back in the second winning 13/11. Jake takes he 3rd and Mike the 4th. The final game saw the fitness and determination of Jake get on top of Michaels drives ad drops - 3/2 to Jake. Meanwhile Giles took on the experienced Clive and after being 5/2 down in the first, had a run of winning shots using pace and width and went 7/5 up, 8/6 up, 9/8 up only to loose 11/9. By now Clive was back in the groove and dictated the play with his lobs and volleys and took the next 2 comfortably. Finally, the match of the evening saw Kevin v Oliver. Kevin had the control, Oliver had the legs and the match swayed back and forth. When Kevin moved more than 2 steps in a rally he won points, while Oliver won points with shots not seen before in the coaching manuals. The match was likened to a 'Comedy of Errors' - I thought this was a bit harsh!! Kevin took the first, Oliver the 2nd and 3rd, Kevin the 4th. The 5th game mirrored the previous - Oliver racing round the court, hitting wonder shots and then hitting shots on the ceiling and tin, Kevin's fitness regime started to take its toll, and his athletic prowess took a dip, with Oliver taking a run of 5 points to win 11/7.
