Report

Report: First up, the mighty Garth v youngster Veer. Competitive start to the match - Garth using all his experience to unsettle Veer, pushing him round the court, denying space and hitting trade mark winners with his forehand cross court drives. Veer took the pummeling, stuck to his basics and used his youth to retrieve and keep Garth moving. First game nip and tuck with Veer winning from 11/10 up, to 15/11. Second game pretty much the same as the first, with Garth battling for the T and Veer overhitting, allowing Garth to easily retrieve from the back corners with tight drives and boasts. Veer gradually settled down and started to vary his shots, with accurate drops and boasts to move Garth forward and won 15/10. The third game saw Garths fitness drop and Veer playing tidy and accurate shots win 15/4. A good game with the spectators given an informative lesson on MARKING! (if you don't ask, you don't get)!!

Meanwhile Paul started well against Jamie, taking a good lead with tight length shots, keeping Jamie at the back. Paul was steaming ahead, until Jamie got going, retrieving well and hitting unorthodox shots from all parts of the court. A tight encounter with Jamie coming back to win 15/13. The next two games followed a similar pattern - speed of Jamie putting Paul under pressure, and although close games, the speedy Jamie got on top of the "puffing Billy" - I mean Paul, taking the games 15/10, 15/12.

Next up the tin man Giles v Adam. Adam started well and looked on top, with good technique and good defensive shots. Giles under-hitting and being caught out by the accuracy of Adams shots. Giles gradually got into it, by picking up the pace and his own speed to the ball catching Adam out - with Adam serving out at 14/14 and then hitting a high cross court out of the court, Giles takes the game 16/14. The game remained competitive, but Giles got a pattern to his game , hitting reverse angles, tight drops , lobs for time and pacey drives. Adam remained competitive , with good drives and drops but volleying was becoming looser. Giles winning the next 2 games, 15/9, 15/12.

Finally, captain Tony v Will ( fresh or otherwise from site-seeing round Bromley). First game competitive, but Tony's retrieving and accuracy getting the better of Will's speed and movement round the court.15/10 to Tony. Tony gradually took charge, playing technically good squash, taking charge of the T, being tight (as usual), and hitting an array of shots with unusual accuracy! Will battled well, gradually running out of steam, and never realizing Tony was left handed, despite the shouts from his team mates. PERSON of the match - Giles!!! Pleasure to play Bexley.
