Report

Report:The fairy tale continues. Dulwich III recorded their 4th straight win with this triumph over Blackheath.
J-P and Jack put us on the road to victory. J-P employed his usual hard hitting game to beat Mr Slater, who also liked to give the ball a good shallacking. However, J-P's placement and fitness gained him the win.
Jack and Sean had a bit more of a chess match type of game.Classic youth v experiance. Good rallies. Difficult one for the marker, as both players were quite forthright in the views re lets and strokes. But Ed stuck to his guns til the end.He did let out a great sigh of relief when the final point was won, though. After a see saw battle Jack ran out a 3-2 winner. Both players shook hands at the end and all was, once again, well with the world.
I shall use the turmoil, which was going on on the neighbouring court, as my excuse for losing the 1st game to Dave. I've never one a match at Blackheath and felt that this might be my day. However, there is no substitute for local knowledge and Dave was able to use the court to his best advantage with good boasts and drop shots. I was able to make a horse race of it by coming back twice to level the match at 2-2. But just as I thought I had the upper hand Dave switched tactics and began to lob me to the back. He was too good and won it in the 5th. I can't be too disappointed. I've never beaten Dave, but this was the closest I've come. Can't wait to get him on a proper squash court.
When I die and got to heaven and am asked at the purley gates, "Who has been the biggest pain in your butt during your life?" I will reply (after my two ex wives and sponging kids) Steve Hall.
Here is a man who gives the impression that he hasn't got a clue. Tonight he got lost going to Blackheath. Not unusual you may say. BUT HE LIVES IN CATFORD! Then he turns up, in his gear, goes straight onto court, has a quick warm up, then wins 3-0 against Mr Curtis who had been patiently waiting over an hour to get on court. I should complain. It ment we won the match.
The best match came last. Ed and Rory reminded us all of how good squash should be played. Plenty of long rallies and running. I think that Ed is part Whippet. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead Ed relaxed and lost the 3rd. He must of caught the stern disapproving look on my face coz he gathered himself and took the 3rd ending the evening on a high for Dulwich III.
As always the food and company was good at Blackheath. If only they had better courts. Think thats a case of "A bad workman blaming he's tools" on my part.
