Report: | After losing to Cannons 2 last week in the Cup Cobdown were hoping to turn it around against Cannons 3, and the evening got off to a very prompt start when the visiting number 5 turned up wanting to get on so that he could get away early. Finding himself 7-2 down in the first was not perhaps the start Dave would have wished for but unbeknown by him a call had just been received on the balcony advising that the No.4 would not be turning up, and having fought back gallantly to win 9-7 the match was the abandoned and he had to start all over again at No.3! Back on court immediatley with Keith, Dave got off to a good start being noicely warmed up but Keith eventually ground him down for a 3-0 result. Meanwhile, Shane had got off to a swift start against Roy with a convincing win in the first only to be pulled back in the second to 1-1 but Shane kept going and eventually came out on top 3-1. Cobdowns now infamous 'Fat Bloke' was on next against Paul who was pushed relentlessly around court before coming off with nothing to show for the very close 2nd & 3rd games. So with the match won it just left me to go on at 3 and try not to become the only team member to lose on the night (I could already hear 'Cabbage' echoing around the gallery) but fortunately I was able to hold myself together in a friendly game with Guy and come out on top. Despite the confusion over the visiting No.4 not turning up we were still able to get back to the bar before ten for the first time this season which looked ominous for the bar tab! Paul was very disappointed that we had Pasta Bake for dinner and not the wonderful curry he had the week before at the cup game but that was my fault - Curry the rest of the season lads -honest! Man of the match has to be Cobdowns Kevin Saunders managing to come back from 1-0 down to register a 3-0 win!! Well done lads. |
