Report

Report:This was a match befitting the 1st and 2nd teams in the league. Unfortunately for Dulwich the winning streak came to halt, but it could have gone either way.
First on were Ed and Mr McMekan. Nice play from both players but Ed was able to retrieve a lot of shots which would normally have won his opponant points. After a hiccup in the first game Ed stormed back to win the next three comfortably. 1-0 to Dulwich.
Next Jack and Graham at No2. Lots of long rallies and plenty of running ( on Graham's part) Didn't see the conclusion but heard that both players played well and entertained the gallery. Jack's better alround game was the difference. 2-0 to Dulwich.
At this point I was hopeful that we could nick the win. But this was before I went on court and got a good old fashioned a*se spanking from Mick at No3. Try as I might I could not find an answer to the solid play of Mick and his deft touch at the front of the court. I was well beaten. 2-1 to Dulwich
Jim didn't fair much better against Phil at No4. Don't think Phil has heard of the term "drop shot" coz he crashed everything to the back of the court. He was very accurate in doing it,though. Jim tried his best but his a*se got spanked like mine. 2-2 all to play for.
The final game had everyone on the edge of their seats. Steve and Mr Lilley had a titanic see-saw battle which went right down to the wire. Steve's game seemed to unsettle Mr Lilley but he gathered himself and was able to come back from 2-1 down to win it in the 5th. 3-2 to Bromley CC but it could have been so different.
A good sign of the tension which both side felt came during the last match, when the normally quiet and placid Nigal Burgess (Jack's dad and biggest fan) apparently became embroiled in a dispute with the marker over a let call. The real culprit was Jack himself, but he let his dad take the rap. Handbags at dawn type stuff but still and indication of how much the win meant to both clubs. All handshakes and apologies at the end.
Burgers, chips, pasta and apple pie for dinner. Great. Good hosts. We look forward to the return fixture.
