Report: | A welcome win for Bromley bringing their 3 match losing streak to an end in the plush surroundings at Cannons and in doing so rekindling their slight hopes of nicking the one remaining promotion spot. Dulwich are clear favourites now and are obviously taking the business of winning this division very seriously indeed.
The evening did not start well however with Cannons taking 2 nil leads in both the opening matches at nos. 4 & 5. Both matches proved to be exciting topsy turvy games with Graham coming back from 0-7 down in the third to win that game and the next two and the match. This was a highly watchable game with the quality of some of the squash making it difficult to believe these were the no.5 strings.
Equally there was some good stuff played by the no.4s with Alan coming back from 2 nil down to get to 2-2 and to 8/6 up in the 5th. The effort proved too much however and Mark who showed enviable mobility throughout the match and was still running for absolutely everything at the end won through.
The 1 and 3 strings played out relatively unremarkable games and it was left to the no.2s to go on in the " decider " with the usual shouts of " NO PRESSURE THEN " bellowing down from the balcony. Paul went off in style quickly building a 5-0 lead but then went on a spree of peppering the tin from all directions and was soon 2 games down.At this point his main match tactic seemed to be - what bit of the tin shall I hit next. Despite a brief comeback to win the third game he succumbed to his old bad ways and lost the 4th.Perhaps he was just being seasonally generous.
A welcome break now before hostilities resume in the new year. A chance for some of my old brigade to recharge their batteries and hopefully find some rejuvenating items in their Christmas stockings!!
