Report

Report:Bromley's 100% record continued with another close win against Sydenham and for the second week running it was left to Tony to seal the victory going on last with the match even.

First on were the no.4s and 5s with Graham achieving a morale boosting 3-0 win after being on the wrong end of a similar score last week. Kevin unusually was not able to show his customary battling qualities and Graham ran out a comfortable winner. My match against Rod had the same scoreline but was a lot closer and had Rod won the first game which he should of done from 8-4 up it could easily have gone the other way. Thanks to Steve for marking this one - I think he's getting the hang of it now.

Graham went on against Richard at no.2 and looked as if he still had his sea legs on, having just come back from a week long cruise. Richard didn't quite look his best but still won fairly easily. Graham threatened in the third getting to 6 all but Richard held on to win.

Next on were the no.3s and this was the most eventful game of the evening with Steve battling back from 2-0 down to level it. In doing so he had time to pull a calf muscle, have a row with the gallery, which was full by this time, and get through two markers. Clearly struggling with his leg he then had the cheek to take a 3-0 lead in the deciding game before Geoff reeled him back in and won the 5th fairly decisively. Good game with plenty of excellent competitve squash.

So over to Tony and Paul who played out the early part of their match to a gallery of 1 (the marker) with all the excitement being on the other court. By the time I got there Tony was 2-1 up having just won the last two games to love. He then took a substantial lead in the 4th and by this time I was beginning to feel a bit sorry for Paul (not really - he knows why). However Paul dug in and made a real game of it before Tony steadied himself and pushed on to win it and the match for Bromley.
