Report

Report:Disappointment for Bromley when for the second successive season after winning the first 5 games we came unstuck at the 6th attempt. But it was no disgrace against a strong Blackheath team.

First on was Mike and Roald, with Mike starting the game very brightly and taking a 7-2 lead in the first. At this stage Roald was not reading Mike's game at all continually being wrong footed. However and this is a big however, Roald stepped up the pace and it worked. Mike did not win another point! I think he will enjoy getting up at 5 am this morning and taking a crowd of school kids to France more than this result.

The no.5s were on the other court with some powerful hitting on show. Nick is a quite a beefy looking fellow and obviously enjoys smacking the ball around and was soon 2-0 up. Big effort from Graham required and big effort we got with the third game a real battle although at 8 all it seemed that nobody wanted it with serves going out, plenty of handouts, and the tin getting a right battering. Graham nicked it 10-8 and back in the game we hoped. Not to be and, although both players were very tired, Nick was the stronger player in the 4th and went on to close out the game.

So Blackheath two up at this stage.

Steve and Dave on next and they produced a tremendously close long hard first game with Steve nicking it 10/9. This took its toll on Steve though who couldn't cope with Dave's speed around the court and the next 3 games and the match went Blackheath's way.

I was on court next and therefore missed the no.1s. Tony however told me on the way home that it was his toughest game of the season so far and perhaps 3-0 flattered him a little. At least his unbeaten record is still intact. As is mine, in this division anyway, after a 3-1 win over Dave P.

So a good result for the Blackheath boys who have taken our place at the top - for the moment!!

Sorry Hernia-man no nicknames this week. Couldn't be bothered - we lost!!
