Report

Report:A great start to the summer season for a Bromley CC III team strengthened by the addition of Tony D having moved "up" from the first team. I think the message is get promoted or else!!

Well the team could do no more than win 5-0 which it did against a below strength Cobdown team missing their talismanic No.1 Alan Briscoe who strolled through both his matches against us in the winter. We were hoping that he might have to raise a bit more of a gallop this time but it was not to be.

Good wins for Bromley at 2,4, and 5 with both Steve and Phil having to work hard to overcome a couple of gutsy hard running opponents. Although it looks as if they spent most of the time trying to copy each others score. At one point though Steve felt he was playing so badly that he was heard to say " I'm playing like Phil". Yes I did hear!!

Didn't see any of Alistair's game who, now languishing down at No.2,had a good win despite feeling a bit out of sorts and having to leave early.

The other two matches were more keenly contested.Graham and Keith's match in particular could have gone either way at 6-6 in the 5th game, with Keith having come back from 2-0 down.
Graham hung on to win it though with a late flurry. Bit like West Ham really!!! Must check to see if his membership is valid.

Last on were the no.1s who treated us to plenty of hard hitting, plenty of shaking of heads and hard stares at rackets. Tony in particular was misfiring in the first game, perhaps trying a little too hard to make an impression and Graham was able to just nick it 10-9. Tony however powered through the next two driving and volleying strongly. Graham found some reserves of energy in the 4th and the battle was on again. Some tremendous retrieving, accompanied by some noisy puffing and panting (I am sure some of the gallery were geting aroused), from Graham enabled him to again nick it 10-9 and level the game 2-2. The 5th was a bit of an anticlimax though ( I didn't mind I was marking it ) and Tony again was able to dominate a very tired opponent and win the 5th. I guess I might have to let him play again!!

So onwards and upwards.
