Report

Report:This was by far the biggest game of the season as the two early league leaders did battle. Would Bromley CC regret their decision to rest two of their stalwarts? - Captain Pugwash (seconded to team 2) and Posh Bloke (washing his hair). Initial indications were that Old Elthamians were up for it as one of them subjected certain Bromley CC member’s to a pre-match interrogation about their fitness levels in the car park. However, by 9:30pm it was all over and Bromley CC continue their unbeaten record by handing out a 5-0 drubbing.

Match reports:

#5’s - Ting Tong v Steve P
The warm up suggested that yet again Ting Tong might lose to another “runner” even though he processed the greater quality, but Ting Tong was not to be denied. Some say it maybe due to the departure (forced repatriation) of his girlfriend back to China, but Ting Tong was in no mood to lose this one. In spite of some cross court shots no wider than the “T”, games 1 and 2 were comfortably affairs for Ting Tong. Alex put up more of a fight in game 3 but to no avail. 3-0 Ting Tong.

#4’s - Bruiser (Aka Mad Dog) v Tim (Nice But Dim)
Bruiser is so confident these day’s that he even let a team player do his pre-match knock up for him. However, this seemed to be false confidence as Tim took the first game. Taking all the advice from the gallery - go long, go short, hit it wider, give up, Bruiser upped his game and won games 2 & 3 at a canter. Game 4 was a tepid affair with Bruiser waiting for an apology from his opponent for every miss hit shot or contact made. In the end Bruiser finished it off and dedicated his win to his many advisors in the gallery. 3-1 Bruiser

#2’s - Sweaty Sock v Mehmet
This was a clash of young versus old or old versus even older. Mehmet was on a 100% record and fancied his chances against the older bugger. However, wily old Sweaty Sock had other ideas. At 2-0 down and not even with a point to his name, Mehmet looked bemused. With his tee shirt still in pristine condition and showing no signs of perspiration, Mehmet’s team mates were questioning his commitment. Riled by this he made game three a closer affair, but Sweaty Sock closed it out after coming from behind at 6-8. 3-0 Sweaty Sock.

#3’s - Straight Arm v Alex (Aka Skippy)
Only saw the beginning of this one as I was due on court. At one stage Straight Arm was wondering what was going on as his opponent entered the court with a skipping rope! By all accounts the match went one way then the other with constant interruptions by Skippy to question the marker including one decision to award a stroke against him as the ball whizzed past his ear. 3-2 Straight Arm.

#1’s – Turkish Tony v Keith H
There was an air of tension about this one as Keith was looking to show Turkish why he has been called up to the Kent O45’s (surely over 50’s!). The tension must have permeated through to his team mates as they all declined Keith’s offer to mark this match and instead asked Sweaty Sock to do it. Turkish won the first two matches with ease as he moved Keith around the court and had him floundering on the floor a few times, although remarkably in each of these rallies Keith still managed to get up and retrieve the next shot. The third game was a closer affair as Turkish took his foot off the pedal and Keith raised his game, but in the end Turkish closed it out. Turkish now expects a knock on the door from Kent’s O45 selectors. 3-0 Turkish.
