Report

Report:An eventful evening saw Bromley CC III lose only for the second time this season. It was a bit of a reunion really with 9 of the 10 players on show all ex New Eltham players. Ah those were the days.
The odd one out was Alex!! - New Eltham being the only club he hasn't played for. Thats a joke in case Alex reads this.

Anyway it seems that a bit of complacency has set in for the league leaders particularly as we were playing with the benefit of knowing that 2nd placed Blackheath had lost the previous evening, and we got what we deserved in this game.

Highlights of the match were a comfortable 3-0 win for Mike playing at 2 in his first game for several weeks. The rest has clearly done him a bit of good. Hope the same can be said for me as I have now played my last game of the season before going off on hols. Not only was this my first loss of the season in the league but it was a particularly feeble effort on my part even by my standards and I couldn't even blame the marker.

Talking of marking, my first duty was to officiate (sounds good) the match between Alan and Mick (No.5 - you are having a laugh). Mick worked his way into this game after a tentative start but by the end was looking good - far too good. Alan for his part played well enough to beat most no.5s (and 3s and 4s for that matter)but will regret losing that 7-2 lead in the 1st game.

But the real highlight of the evening for me was, after having been stuffed 3-0 in my game, to then have to take over the marking duties for the game between Graham and Alex (great evening I had - bring on the holiday). This was a game or should I say bout that had everything. Tempers flaring, shouting and swearing, pushing and shoving, all good stuff and all played under the watchful eye of Gary Barrett who graced us with his presence last night. It was all a bit like watching Eastenders I guess.

Needless to say the game went all the way to 10-9 in the 5th with me thinking will I have to call let/stroke on match ball. Deep joy!. However Graham notched up a battling win for Bromley and just about managed to shake hands at the end although I suspect it was Alex's throat he would have liked to have had his hands round. As Alex came off court he looked up at me and said " What did I do wrong". I thought " how long have you got".

Last game of the evening saw the no.1s play out the decider. Only saw the last few points with Graham scrapping as hard as ever but a fairly decisive win for Keith which keeps Old Elthamian's promotion hopes alive.

So over to Mr Leffen to see the Bromley Boys safely through to the end of the season and that title. Just make sure you don't spend all that money!!
