Report

Report: Closely contested match, culminating in the No 5's playing the last string for the match.

Disappointing result for Bromley with the lower order players rather letting down the performance put in especially by Alistair playing at 1. I should have put him on court first which would have inspired us all I'm sure. As it was Graham E and I went on first and contrived to put Bromley 2-0 down. Graham barely troubled the scorers against Chris, and would be in line to wear the duffer of the week shirt next week if we had one that is. I at least kept Danny on court for a bit longer and in reality should have won from 6-2 up in the 5th, but managed to let Danny back in and lose it 10-8. Most good captains of course would take such a defeat in good grace say well played and immediately run upstairs to see if there were games to be marked and team-mates to be encouraged. I on the other hand slunk off to the changing rooms and sulked for a while muttering about the courts, the marker etc etc etc.

Once the immature moment had passed I was able to enjoy the end of Alistairs game who even in the 5th game had too many shots for his younger opponent Dave to put Bromley back in the match at 2-1. Things then really started to look up for Bromley with Mike proving too good for Alex, who although winning the 1st game, was quite convincingly beaten in the end.

So as our host has mentioned above it was then all down to the no.5s to play out the deciding match. Amit proved to be a very steady player with a good all round game and youth and fitness also on his side. In other words Graham was trying to put himself in the duffer of the week shirt, but at least he won a point for the team. So victory for Blackheath, well done to them and thanks to Neil for the food. Mind you I could smell the cooking while I was playing..................another reason I lost.....yeah right!!.
