Report

Report:Thanks to Steve for putting the scores on. It looks like you and I had a good game - you won 4-1!!

Another stuttering performance by promotion hopefuls Bromley, but at least a win, unlike last week's sorry effort at Sydenham. Mike and Bob were on first and Mike got the 3-0 win he was looking for before chasing off to do a pickup at Stanstead airport. A more complicated affair was developing on the adjoining court where the two captains were playing. The first two games were very close Steve winnng both 10-8, although he very nearly surrendered a 7 point lead in the 1st game. He obviously took a breather in the 3rd game and didn't even trouble the scorer in this one (change of marker by this time). Hostilities resumed in the 4th game and it was nip and tuck again. Dodgy calls, disputed calls, not to mention dodgy walls, it was game on and the 4th and 5th could have gone either way. Fortunately and I mean fortunately given the overall match result they both went to me (despite what the scorecard above says).

So Bromley two up and things looking good, and Graham went on court looking to make up for last week's bad defeat. It was not to be, and despite taking the first game he succumbed to Alan's solid steady game. Things then took a further turn for the worst for Bromley when Martin emerged victorious over Steve. I think some of us may have been expecting a few fireworks from these two, but the game from what I saw was played in an exemplary fashion. Just a shame about the result. Steve came off and said he was just too good. What a sport.

So again we sat back as a team thinking we have got to 2 all, let Tony go on and win it again for us. As we all know Tony likes to play quite a physical game. But he came up against an opponent who is not exactly lacking in that department either. Sean took a lead in the first game, before Tony battled back to win it. We settled back and waited for the expected win. But Sean was not having it and took the next two games with some great squash using his reach, and power especially to good effect. Tony was a little unsettled by this stage, not used to being behind and needed to indulge in a bit of self analysis to put things right. In other words he gave himself a good mental kick up the *rse and went back on to win the last two games only losing 2 more points in the process.

A vital win for Bromley this to maintain our hold on second place with only a few games left in the season. Thanks to Hartley/Cascades for a scrumptious meal afterwards - most enjoyable.
