Report

Report:Having had the privilege of watching Ben Ford play Priory squash on these courts last week it was back to reality watching the Division 5 boys. I had decided to rest myself for this one - still out of breath a week on from simply watching Lewy play Ted Jeal, followed by Ben playing Martin Rintoul ( whoever he is) - oh yes Bromley's new No.1. Nearly forgot.

Anyway moving on - this was another battling win for Bromley against Blackheath's 2nd team who included a couple of new faces, Panji and Phil who both look more than useful additions to the Blackheath squad. Panji in particular at 6'8" tall looks too big for a squash court and you could tell from Graham's face that he was continually thinking - how the hell am I supposed to get the ball past this bloke. Well he did a few times but not often enough and Panji recorded a 3-2 win. As did Dave on the other court in the battle of the two cackhanders - sorry left handers. Alan simply unable to repeat his efforts of the previous match - flash in the pan I guess - again it was 3-2 to Blackheath and they were two games up. It is probably fair to say that at this stage my selection policy was coming under even closer scrutiny that it had for the last couple of weeks - and that is saying something. I was quietly confident however !!!

Unlike Alastair who was all bad back and I want to get on court soon otherwise I will stiffen up. Yawn - he went on and won 3-0 - again. Mike also had too much for his young opponent Phil who played some very nice squash, hits the ball cleanly on both sides and will only get better. As for Mike - I think we all wish we could mishit it like he does. Two badly mistimed shots at 7-6 up in the 4th game to win two points and therefore the match was simply outrageous, but in fairness he had played well to get to that stage!

So yet again - match all square at two all and its down to the No.1s and on strides Tony Davies to do battle and up against Roald. The first game was indeed a battle, with Roald taking a big lead but Tony digging in and finally coming out on top 10-8. After this it was a bit more straightforward for Tony and the next two games were more of a skirmish than a battle. 3-0 to Tony and the match to Bromley.
