Report

Report:A long awaited and well deserved victory for the Dulwich 3rd team. At number 5 there was a straight games defeat of Andy B and a freakish injury when a practice swing, after the point was won, hit his eyebrow in game 3, just as he was starting to compete. I trust that any pain was anaesthetised at the bar.

On the other court the third rubber was in progress and we saw why Alan Briscoe was unbeaten in division 4 at first rubber for Cobdown in the winter. Having lost the first game Alan played his trademark volley drops and lobs to wear Mark P down. Their front court game is going to be keenly felt by their leg muscles this morning and it is a tribute to the combined quality of their squash that this attracted more spectators than the marathon of sorts taking place at number one.

Matt K lost 2-3 in a fight that lasted over an hour. Matt is on the cusp of winning and when he does, he will do so convincingly, having not played for most of the first part of the season.

Dulwich were now 1-2 in matches and survival was left in the capable hands of Nic W. Or so it seemeed for the first two games. Graham Ray fought back to 2-2 for Bromley, but that plainly took its toll on him as Nic W cruised to a 9-0 victory to level the match.

This left Olly R just back from a holiday in Spain to contest the deciding rubber at second string. Olly and his pals were somewhere near Barcelona and the squash that was witnessed by the gallery was not dissimilar in style to the flowing, attacking football played by the Catalan club. Arguably the best squash, some say, that Olly has played this summer season against a highly competent opponent.

This was a match that was largely played in good spirit. There was one rubber however..... Well played boys. Bring on the second half of the season.
